feria de ceniza
Bueeeeeno pues el canal de VFS de youtube ha publicado mi corto porfín, así que ahí les va, mi opera prima, espero que algún día tenga la oportunidad de hacer otro!
(Si es que logro salir de mi extriñimiento creativo...)

I´ve been working I swear... / nada que postear ultimamente...
So... I havent post in a while... but... I´ve been doing something... working on my future as an animator!! but still I feel bad when I see my empty blog, so here is my demo reel!

Well... School is officially over, no more homework, no more VFS, I think I am a workoholic I just cant believe is over! It is time to go home and sleep! and here I am cleaning my stuff trying to find something to do... haha, so I am posting, there you go, the whole year of sweat, stress and achievements in 20 pages, phew!

La feria se acabo!! / final film done!
Pues despues de 4 meses de arduo esfuerzo (increible que se transformen en solo 3 minutos de animacion...), la feria de ceniza porfin concluye, con final feliz despido porfiiiiiin este proyecto, ya, basta, el arbol que se prende fuego ya estuvo.
Disfrute cada uno de los procesos en la animacion desde storyboard, composicion, animacion, direccion de arte, color, edicion... pero creo que encontre en la direccion de arte mi nueva pasion, todo es importante pero con una buena seleccion de colores, texturas, edicion y estilo de dibujo, aunada a una historia dostres, que mas da si dibujas bien o mal o si la animacion es mala, la historia entra por los ojos y afecta de alguna manera al publico, que es lo que importa al fin.
Y al final ya todo es subjetividad, el director piensa en todo, trata de perfeccionar cada detalle, pero nunca sabe como reaccionara la audiencia, estoy muy emocionado de escuchar las reacciones de la gente en la graduacion; esta animacion es, con todo lo personal que hay de fondo, a final de cuentas para los demas.
En este preciso momento las escenas estan siendo editadas, se esta componiendo la musica y el sonido, para dar los ultimos toques a esta larga travesia. Pero por lo mientras unas imagenes en conmemoracion del final de este pequenio gran esfuerzo.

Final film is finally done!! After 4 months (amazing so much work for just 3 minutes of film...) this project is over!! With a happy ending I say goodbye to the self burned tree, enough of that I am moving on!
I enjoyed every aspect of the film process from storyboard to postproduction, but what I enjoyed the most, and has become my new passion is art direction. Choosing colors, textures, cleanup styles, everything that makes a film so rich and full of feelings, the best thing of this is that the audience never notice the work of an art director, they just feel it (if its well done, of course).
And at the end everything turns so subjective, directors think of everything, they work on every detail, but at the end is the audience who decides if they like it or not, as simple as it. I dont want to know if its a good movie or a bad one, I just want to know if you like it, if it made you feel something, thats my only goal, no more.
The film is right now at the very end of the process, so while its ready to show here are some screen shots!

Y el proceso sigue y sigue... / Final fim update!
La feria de ceniza sigue y sigue, estuve trabajando un poco en los colores, las composiciones, las texturas, (la dirección de arte que le dicen...) y el fiiiling que quiero en general.
Decidí moverme por el mundo en que me siento más ducho, este look de sumie melancólico, quiero que todo sea gris con unos destellos de colores por ahí, y en el fuego que es la escena clímax harto rojo y negro! siiii!!! ya quiero empezar a colorear!! pero pues primero lo primero: afinar la historia, hacerla posible (ahora dura unos 2 minutos, y está cabrón dibujar todo en 3 semanas...).
Las juntas con los maestros siguen, y seguiré posteando pa que vean como es el proceso de una animación a pura manita... Ah el post pasado no era una despedida!!
Y como diría mi exgurú: reciban mi cariño incomensurable y a la alza!

Final film keep on going, there is no time to waste! Here are some images of the look I want for the film, everything will be in that "sumie" japanese old paintings style, gray with subtle touches of colors here and there... And in the fire scene lots of red and black yeah!!
And still thinking of the name of the film... I have the name in spanish "feria de ceniza" it sounds pretty cool but when I transalte it to english sounds like "carnival of ashes" mmm... I dont know it sounds like a tacky sopopera... Marv sugested to keep it in spanish but with more universal words like "carnaval de fuego" Still not sure... but for now it is good enough, I better worry of finish the film first.... haha right now is a 2 minute and 30 seconds film... I have to make it shorter if I want to survive the process...

Primeros destellos / First roughs...
Pues después de 6 meses de aprendizaje acelerado listos o no ahí viene el proyecto final, el título del cortometraje de animación será... feria de ceniza, tal vez para por fin darle conclusión a la autodestrucción esta y transformar las cenizas en algo concizo, el siguiente paso...
La idea esencial persiste, un árbol se destruye para ser libre y volar a otros lugares...
Con esta pequeña imagen me despido, esperando como siempre que el viaje continúe sin contratiempos y lleguemos a costas, que más da si cálidas o no, apacibles, placenteras, libres.

After six months of highspeed acquired knowledge, ready or not, here we go with final film! Here it is the first glimpse of what is going to be...
This proyect is the conclusion of an idea I had years ago, in which basically I symbollically destroyed my name and turn it into something else, (my name naoki means tree, therefor lots of illustration of burned trees and ashes and self destruction). When I finished that serie of illustration I didnt know what to do with all the ashes I had, I realized that I had to turn the ashes into something to keep going.
So thats what my film is going to be about, a tree who becomes ashes and flyes free.
I dont think death is a sad thing, for me it just means change, a really powerful way to keep things moving, sometimes we need to sacrifice lots of things to be happy.
